Many employers request credit reports for some categories of job applicants. This is a legal request, as long as the applicant has authorized it in writing by signing a document that's part of your job application packet. What's important to know is that these reports are created solely for employment purposes only. That is, they are a bit different than the report a lender or credit grantor would see. These reports DO NOT have a credit score. And for your applicants, such a request is considered a 'soft inquiry,' and would not impact their future credit activities. The days of hiring only people you know from your community are long gone. Now, job applicants at your door are coming from all over the U.S. and the world. You don't know anything about them.
So, what's a quick and cost effective way to 'throw a net' over the U.S. to learn if they have any criminal histories? CRIMECHEX PLUS is an instant criminal record check that includes the following:
- Validation of the social security number (SSN) and a list of all the addresses associated with the applicant for the last 1-20 years (when the SSN has been used as an identifier). You will learn about any other names (maiden, religious, etc.) associated with your applicant.
